Purpose:

"Peace requires the simple but powerful recognition that what we have in common as human beings is more important and crucial than what divides us."

About Me

Simply documenting an incredible adventure that is my 27 month Peace Corps service in Tanzania.
I was born and raised in Shawnee, KS. I graduated from Hastings College in 2009 with a B.A. in Secondary Education, History and ESL and will officially graduate from the University of Denver with an M.A. in International Development and Humanitarian Assistance in 2014 (upon completion of service).
I am working as a Health Education Extension worker in Tanzania from October 12, 2011 to December 14, 2013.  My main position will be to work with an NGO called ITECH and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare through the Central Zone Health Resource Center.  I will be assisting the zonal coordinator with site visits in the Dodoma and Singida region, teaching 1 or 2 classes at the nursing school, and working to increase funding and partnerships with zonal activities.  Secondary projects include working in primary and secondary schools and clinics providing HIV/AIDS, malaria, and general health education. I'll also hopefully be working with PLWHIVA (people living with HIV/AIDS) and OVC (orphans and vulnerable children), organizing women's empowerment conferences, creating education initiatives and promoting sports engagement.
